The Philadelphia Eagles should do everything they can to have Sean Payton as their next head coach.

The third Philadelphia Eagles season with Chip Kelly as head coach didn’t go so well. As a result, he was let go earlier this week. Philadelphia won in Week 17 and showed glimpses of things not seen under Kelly and are reportedly interested in hiring Sean Payton if he’s available soon.

Jeffrey Lurie now must re-start the process of finding the team’s next head coach, but the prime candidate to succeed Kelly is currently on someone else’s pay roll. No matter what they’d have to give in return, the Eagles should do whatever they have to in order to hire Payton to be their next head coach. Ideally, the Eagles will wait until Payton becomes available and isn’t tied down to another team to engage in talks.

Payton is an experienced head coach that has an attractive resume. He helped rebuild a struggling New Orleans Saints side and turn them into an attractive side of football who continually succeeded at the top level. Now the Saints could use a change at the head coach position and a change of scenery for Payton would be good at this point.

If the Eagles could secure the head coaching rights to Payton, then they could quickly be competitive in the NFL and it wouldn’t take a long rebuild in order to find success.
