Here are my FanDuel Late Night NBA Picks for January 5th:
Next: There Are Bargains At PG
Point Guards:
Best Bet:
Rajon Rondo, Kings ($7,800): Rondo has had a couple of clunkers over the last couple of weeks, but those were against Golden State and Washington, who are very good at minimizing the effect of opposing point guards. Dallas is not, especially with Deron Williams nursing a bad hamstring. This is a good matchup for Rondo regardless. If you take out those two bad games, Rondo is averaging 39.6 FanDuel points per game over his last ten.
UPDATE: Rondo is DOUBTFUL tonight. Use Darren Collison in all formats!
Honorable Mention:
Stephen Curry, Warriors($10,700): The Lakers are terrible. That is why Curry is down here. He is not an elite option because he is fresh off a leg injury and this game will likely be out of hand very quickly. Curry likely will only play about half the game or so because the Warriors will want to save him for the games when they will need him. It is for this same reason that I wont be playing Jeff Teague against the Knicks.
Jordan Clarkson, Lakers ($6,100): Rookie D’Angelo Russell was sent home from practice on Monday because of an illness. That means that even if he is ready to go for tonight’s game that he likely wont play a huge chunk of minutes. That leaves the door wide open for Clarkson, who has topped 25 fantasy points in eight of his last ten games. The games that he didn’t corresponded with Russell’s best games. Expect another solid line from Clarkson.
If You’re Cheap:
Darren Collison, Kings ($5,400): The Kings are firing on all cylinders lately thanks to Collison and Rondo playing on the court together. He has at least 20 FanDuel points in each of his last six games, and is showing no signs of slowing down. Did we mention that Dallas doesn’t cover guards very well?
J.J. Barea, Mavericks($4,600): Barea has had some good games filling in for Williams. If Williams sits with his sore hamstring again, Barea could be a cheap source of points. Just make sure you watch Williams’ status leading up to tipoff. If Williams plays, Barea is too much of a risk, even at this price.
My picks: Clarkson and Collison
Next: Is There A Cheap Option At SG?
Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
Klay Thompson, Warriors($7,600): Thompson has found himself shooting a whole lot more with Stephen Curry out of the lineup. I still don’t think that Curry will see anywhere near his full compliment of minutes in this one, so there is a chance that Thompson gets a chance to shoot more once again.
Honorable Mention:
Lou Williams, Lakers ($5,700): With Kobe Bryant nursing a sore shoulder, Williams has absorbed more minutes and has responded with a healthy 34.5 FanDuel point average over his last four games. Bryant remains questionable, and if he is out again, Williams is approaching must-play status.
If You’re Cheap:
Wesley Matthews, Mavericks($5,100): Matthews is not the producer that he was in Portland, but he has still averaged 22.3 FanDuel points over his last four games. With Deron Williams likely out again tonight, Matthews should have a larger role once again.
My picks: Thompson and Williams
Next: Should You Spend On Melo?
Small Forwards:
Best Bets:
Rudy Gay, Kings($7,000): Gay’s production is down from where we are used to seeing him. He has not topped the 30 FanDuel point threshold since December 28th, and has only been there three times in his last nine games. However, if Omri Casspi is out again tonight – and it is looking like he will be – look for Gay to pick up some of the slack.
Honorable Mention:
Chandler Parsons, Mavericks($5,100): Parsons is more of a risk here since he has not been a consistent producer since his return to the court after missing the first six weeks of the season. That said, he has played more than 30 minutes in five of his last six games, and has shown the ability to hit 30. He is a risk/reward type of player, but he could pay off big with Casspi out.
If You’re Cheap:
Anthony Brown, Lakers($3,500): Brown has played 52 minutes over his last two games. That kind of playing time hasn’t resulted in a ton of points (25.6), but that is still almost 4x value. He is slightly more reliable than the Warriors’ and Bulls’ timeshares (Harrison Barnes and Andre Iguodala and Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic respectively). Though Mirotic likely holds the most upside of the bunch.
My Picks: Gay and Brown
Next: Do You Need To Spend On Draymond Green?
Power Forward:
Best Bets:
Draymond Green, Warriors($9,700): Green is becoming one of the most well rounded players in the NBA. He has three consecutive triple-doubles. Needless to say, that the winning FanDuel lineups over the Warriors’ last three games have had Green in them. With Curry still limited, don’t rule out a fourth consecutive monster game for Green. You almost have to play him tonight, even though he may rest the fourth quarter against an awful Lakers team..
Honorable Mention:
Dirk Nowitzki, Mavericks($6,900): Nowitzki had a terrible outing against the Heat on New Year’s Day, but overall he has still been between 27 and 30 FanDuel points every time out. The Kings are solid in the middle as well, but I would still count on Dirk getting around 25.
If You’re Cheap:
Larry Nance, Lakers ($4,300): Nance has seen an uptick in minutes over his last five games, and has responded by averaging 26 FanDuel points in that span. If he keeps getting run for the Lakers, which he should, he is a terrific bargain.
My picks: Green and Nance
Next: Who Is The Best At C?
Center:
Best Bet:
DeMarcus Cousins, Kings ($9,700): “Boogie” had a huge night against Oklahoma City last night. He has scored more than 30 points in each of his last two games. Judging by the way he feasted on the Thunder frontcourt, Dallas wont provide much resistance either. The Mavericks are rather soft in the middle with Zaza Pachulia and the aging Dirk Nowitzki. Look for another big night from Cousins.
Honorable Mention:
Zaza Pachulia, Mavericks($6,600): Pachulia has been one of the most consistent producers in the game over the last five games. He has been between 31.9 and 33.8 in every game during that span. You know exactly what you are getting from Pachulia, which is close to 5x value.
If You’re Cheap:
Roy Hibbert, Lakers($4,500): Hibbert is no longer an elite force in the middle, but he still flashes the occasional 30 FanDuel point game. The Warriors aren’t particularly strong in the middle, especially if Festus Ezeli sits again. That should open it up for Hibbert to have a solid game. Just don’t expect spectacular things from him.
My Pick: Cousins
