Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid could return February 2
Forward Connor McDavid could return as early as February 2
Sportsnet’s Mark Spector is quick to report on Sportsnet.ca that the Edmonton Oilers‘ first overall selection from this past summer’s NHL Entry Draft, Connor McDavid, could make his return as early as February 2 on home ice against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The 2015 NHL Entry Draft had two potential superstars who were about to take the league by storm – McDavid and Jack Eichel. The Edmonton Oilers held the first overall selection and chose McDavid and the Buffalo Sabres responded with the second overall pick selecting Eichel.
McDavid is an 18 years old from Toronto, Canada. He has played in 13 games for the Edmonton Oilers and so far has a dozen points in his rookie season. The 19-year-old Eichel, from Massachusetts, has 26 points in his first 40 games as a professional hockey player.
During a game against the Philadelphia Flyers, on November 3, McDavid hurt himself suffering a broken clavicle on home ice. He has yet to play a game since that injury occurred.
Spector says that the Oilers’ jewel has practiced with the team three times since joining them on New Years Day. Spector speculates that it will take a few more practices before McDavid can see how his shoulder handles the rigors of full contact in practice.
The Edmonton Oilers are at the halfway point of the season, have 37 points to their record and are sitting in the basement of the Pacific Division. The team has had a string of first round selections since the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Forwards Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov and McDavid are all Edmonton’s first overall selections and the Oilers would love the picks to achieve great things in western Canada.
