Philadelphia Eagles (7-9)

You are the most attractive location available for a new head coach.

Thanks to the Colts choosing to retain Chuck Pagano*, Philadelphia instantly vaults to the most attractive coaching destination for the 2016 offseason. Unless a playoff coach is unexpectedly fired, the Eagles appear to be the best team in the market.

Still, thanks to the dearly departed Chip Kelly the Eagles roster is talented yet bizarre. The places where Kelly’s influence hit the hardest was at offensive skill positions, leaving the Eagles with the unfortunate Sam Bradford at quarterback, the gallery of underused running backs containing DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles and pass catchers with bars of soap for hands in Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper.

However, looking at other parts of the roster the Eagles have a bevy of talent. They are strongest at linebacker, with Connor Barwin, DeMeco Ryans, Mychal Hendricks, rookie surprise Jordan Hicks and the talented but often injured Kiko Alonso. The team has other cornerstones around the roster like defensive end Fletcher Cox, tackle Jason Peters, safety Malcolm Jenkins and cornerback Byron Maxwell, and solid young talent in Hicks, corner Eric Rowe and to a lesser extent wideout Nelson Agholor.

The Eagles won’t be keeping everybody – it’s likely that they plan to part with one of their linebackers – but this team is closer to competing than any other team looking for a new head coach.

*To be fair, this action was praised by the players, who clearly believe in him and his staff. This is his first season of mediocrity, and so the blame might be more accurately placed on Colts GM Ryan Grigson’s inability to build around Andrew Luck OR provide a competent defense. Grigson and Pagano are a package deal, and both are staying.
