NBA Rumors: Spurs favorites to land Kevin Martin if Timberwolves buyout goes through
By Jack Crosby
Kevin Martin could be freed up rather soon, and if so the Spurs will be right at the front of the line.
Right now the Minnesota Timberwolves and shooting guard Kevin Martin are in talks of a buyout, and if the deal can get done by Tuesday’s deadline then he will be eligible to play in the postseason for one of the contending teams.
Well, it looks like one of those contending teams is ready to get in line if the buyout takes place as anticipated.
According to Marc Stein, should Martin and the Wolves reach an agreement, then none other than the San Antonio Spurs are the front runners at the moment to get him on the roster.
Should the buyout take place, then this would be a solid move for the Spurs. Now in the second half of the season, it’s already been established that the Spurs are one of the front runners for the NBA title. However, to get to that point of course they’ll more than likely have to take care of business against the Golden State Warriors, the unquestioned best team in the league this season.
To get the job done in that regard, this team will need some depth off the bench and Martin would provide just that.
This season for the Timberwolves, Martin is averaging 10.6 points per game in just a little over 12 minutes.
