Michael Sam had pretty much the same reaction as the rest of us when he learned what the Falcons did.
We know that during the process that is the annual NFL Scouting Combine, teams will ask some pretty odd questions in the individual interviews. However, we learned on Friday that the Atlanta Falcons took things a little too far in their interview with former Ohio State star Eli Apple.
Apple let it be known that one of the questions he was asked by the NFC South franchise was whether or not he liked men. Yes, just as simple as that, as if it had anything in the world to do with what he could potentially provide them on the field.
Since then, the outrage has been enormous and the team has even apologized. Then earlier this afternoon, someone who holds the weight to speak on something like this chimed in — Michael Sam.
Yep, we’re all wondering the same thing too, Michael.
As you’ll all remember, when he was coming out of Missouri a few years ago as the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Sam openly came out as a gay man, and ultimately that didn’t completely kill his chances at earning a shot. The Rams took a chance on him in the final round of the draft, showing that sexual orientation is not that big of a deal in the NFL anymore.
Apparently –and sadly– it still is to some people that are employed by teams.
