Fantasy Baseball 2016 Final Position Rankings
By Bill Pivetz
Over the last two months, I ranked all of the positions tier by tier. So, before you draft, check out my final position rankings for the 2016 season.
It was a long road. Starting in February, I went through and ranked players, position by position. It took a lot of time, research and determination, but it’s done. So, to help you in the draft room and on the waiver wire, I will post all of the rankings here. They will be broken up by position and tier.

2016 Position Rankings
Catcher: 10-1
Starting Pitcher: 50-21, 20-11, 10-1
Relief Pitcher: 30-21, 20-11, 10-1
Designated Hitter: 5-1
I ranked only 10 catchers because the standard 10-team ESPN (or other service) league uses only 10 catchers. If you are in need of a second catcher, just find the best available on the waiver wire. Same with kickers in fantasy football, you only need to draft one.
I ranked only 15 second basemen and shortstops for similar reasons. Standard leagues only use one second baseman and one shortstop. Most utilize a middle infield spot as well. So, there are 15 second basemen for you if you want a second one on your team, and same with shortstop. The position is deep, 30 per team, but the talent runs about 15 deep, maybe 20 depending on what you’re looking for.
I use some other statistics, like on-base percentage, K/9 and holds. I reference Fangraphs frequently to keep my projections in line and the ESPN rankings as a meter to not overrate everyone. Then again, I probably did.

After you take a look at each one, I want to hear your rankings. Did an owner reach for someone earlier than you thought? Did I overrate or underrate a player, or 10? Let me know in the comments.
Good luck and enjoy the season.
