In the Red Sox’s home opener, Pablo Sandoval was greeted to boos by his own fans.
The Boston Red Sox are off to a 3-2 start to the season, and many are bullish on their chances of making it back to the postseason after landing some big acquisitions in David Price and Craig Kimbrel. While there is a lot to be excited about with the Red Sox, one player fans are not so high on is Pablo Sandoval, who made an absolute fool of himself over the weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays. First, his belt came undone on a swing then a fan trolled him by bringing an oversized belt to the park.
In six at-bats so far this season, he has yet to record his first hit. Couple that with his underwhelming production since he arrived to the team last year, and it’s no surprise that he was greeted with boos by the Fenway faithful:
Usually, actions like this shouldn’t be condoned and fans should show loyalty to their own players, but they have every right to be frustrated over Sandoval. He looked like a shell of himself when he came over from San Francisco last year, and was a big reason why the team struggled so much. And if his weight issues are an indication of how this season is going to play out, then Red Sox fans have every right to be concerned.
Of course, it is up to Sandoval to silence his doubters and live up to the hype that came with him when he arrived.
