The Minnesota Timberwolves are going hard after Tom Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy. 

In what can only be described as a real-life episode of the Twilight Zone, the Minnesota Timberwolves are the best head coaching vacancy in the NBA. With stars on the rise like Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, and complementary stars like Zach LaVine and Shabazz Muhammad, the Wolves are poised to lure in a top tier head coach for the first time in franchise history.

Not since the late Flip Saunders took over the team has there been this much potential competence surrounded the team. Jut three years ago, never in a billion years would you have been able to convince Tom Thobibodeau or Jeff Van Gundy to take the had coaching job in Minnesota. That’s the reality though as the Wolves are going after both candidates hard.

According to Marc Stein from ESPN.com, the Wolves have already interviewed Tom Thibodeau and are scheduled to meet with Van Gundy on Monday.

These are literally the best two options that the Wolves could hope for. In fact, it’s so wildly outside of any hope that fans have ever had about the franchise that it’s almost surreal to think about.

What’s even more surreal to think about is the fact that the likelihood that one of those two coaches will be in charge of the team in 2016-17. The Rockets and Wizards are already using this time to go after Scott Brooks, which means they’re not even trying to interfere with this process. Wolves fans who have suffered through one good season in a quarter of a century finally have something to be happy about in the basketball boneyards of Minnesota.
