2. Thibodeau creates more attraction for free agents

Sam Mitchell was never going to be the head coach to take the Timberwolves to glorious new heights or have the draw to attract the best free agents to a growing market like Minnesota. There are so many positives with the young stars cramming the roster, but they still weren’t going to be enough to attract many high-profile free agents in search of a ring.

Make no mistake, the Timberwolves still aren’t making the playoffs over night.

However, they can be a lot closer if the new coach not only helps the current players but makes the right acquisitions as the president of basketball operations to take the growth a few steps further.

No matter how many thrilling young pieces fill the starting lineup, there’s still obvious room for improvement in the second unit while the starters develop. From some additional veteran presence besides Kevin Garnett, some improved three-point shooting or a notable power forward to pair with Towns, there should be a greater chance to achieve such additions with Thibs in town.

He’s well-respected among the league, he’s a great defensive mind, and he didn’t achieve a 64.7 win percentage in five years with the Bulls for nothing.

With a talented young team full of potential, the Timberwolves were a B-list Hollywood actor. With a head coach like Thibodeau onboard and any notable free agent signings, they make the jump to an Oscar winner in the not-so-distant future.
