1. Can the Timberwolves hit their peak as the Warriors decline?

No, the Warriors aren’t going away any time soon. They’ve just won 73 games to record the best regular season in history, and as long as Stephen Curry’s ankle issue is overcome soon (as it should be), it’s hard to argue that they don’t have everything in their arsenal to repeat as NBA champions.

However, even though it goes without saying that they won’t keep winning 73 games every season, they can’t maintain their current level of play forever. At some point, just like the seemingly ageless San Antonio Spurs when the likes of Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan retire (enter Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge), they may experience some kind of decline.

Eventually, if the Splash Brothers ever divide, Andrew Bogut (31) isn’t quite as potent defensively as he approaches his late thirties, or Curry’s ridiculous scoring drops off in another five years (he won’t have seasons like this forever, and, perhaps, there could be ankle issues that come back in the future), the Timberwolves may be able to reach their potential as the league’s most formidable team takes a step back.

Then again, the Warriors could go ahead and sign Kevin Durant this summer and they’ll have one of the best scorers in league history who isn’t even 28 yet. Who knows what will happen.

Nevertheless, as the Timberwolves are just setting off on their journey to contention, armed with sky-high potential and hopefully Tom Thibodeau, they may be able to hit their apex at just the right time. Because until then, at least over the next couple of seasons, it looks like everyone else around the league is going to struggle against the Warriors.

Of course, other teams may rise to prominence out of nowhere, too. But the Timberwolves are putting together all the right pieces to be one of the NBA’s deadliest teams by the time Thibodeau’s possible contract has run its course.
