New York Mets Asdrubal Cabrera: Waiver Wire Add

Asdrubal Cabrera has been off to a great start at the plate for the New York Mets to begin the season. Should fantasy owners buy in and add him off the waiver wire?

Asdrubal Cabrera enters the 2016 season as a ten-year veteran, tasked with bringing stability to the Mets’ shortstop position. Cabrera has made his fair share of defensive highlights, but he has remained a consistent power source at short throughout his entire career. He is already raking to begin the season, so can fantasy owners look to him as a potential MI fill-in?

While Cabrera’s speed and plate approach have waned the last handful of seasons, he has hit no less than 14 HR in any of the last five seasons, notched at least 20+ doubles, and has averaged no less than 60 RBI per season as well. Those are solid baseline stats, even if his AVG fluctuates between the .240s- .260s.

So far this season he sits with a, .333 AVG/1 HR/5 RBI/.827 OPS/6 R, line. A solid start no doubt, and he has especially been raking the last two weeks, notching 16 hits over that span. While his home ballpark is by no means a hitter’s haven, Cabrera has had the benefit of being slotted in the middle of the Mets’ lineup. He has been inserted into the 6^th spot, right behind the mashing Neil Walker, so he has been able to amass plenty of counting stats opportunities so far, and hopefully moving forward.
