Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to be announced as the 2015-16 NBA Rookie of the Year for his dominating season as a part of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Minnesota Timberwolves are “expected to formally announce Karl-Anthony Towns as Rookie of the Year.” This will come in a press conference scheduled for Monday morning.

This comes as absolutely no surprise as Towns was by far and away the best rookie of his draft class. The Timberwolves’ starting center won Western Conference Rookie of the Month all six months that the recognition was doled out.

Towns averaged a double-double as a rookie and stands as arguably the best young, cornerstone prospect on any NBA franchise. The way he dominated as a rookie for the upstart Timberwolves has many believing that Minnesota will end its league-worst 12 year NBA Playoffs drought in 2016-17 under new head coach Tom Thibodeau.

While there is a chance that Towns could be the unanimous 2015-16 NBA’s Rookie of the Year recipient, maybe either the New York Knicks power forward/center Kristaps Porzingis or the Miami Heat’s small forward Justise Winslow can steal a first-place vote away from Towns?

Unless Minnesota is pulling a fast one on us and will instead announce that the greatest Timberwolves player ever in small forward Kevin Garnett is calling it a career, Minnesota will have its second straight rookie of the year with this exciting young corps. Small forward Andrew Wiggins won the award last season after a stellar 2014-15 NBA campaign.

With yet another high lottery pick probably coming this summer in the 2015 NBA Draft, there has not been this much optimism surrounding the Timberwolves since the club went to the 2004 Western Conference Finals in the year Garnett won MVP.
