Here are the full highlights from the 2016 Indy 500.
The 2016 Indy 500 was one that started as tranquil in nature, but by the end of the race, every driver was laying it on the line for the win and a chance to drink the milk.
One driver that really made an impact early on Sunday, was Townsend Bell. He kept making moves in the corner and there were several close calls with other drivers, as his aggressive style of racing allowed him to pass and work his way toward the lead.

While the race started relative clean on the day, Juan Pablo Montoya took the first big spill of the afternoon. As Montoya was coming into the second turn, his car got sideways on him and something broke, which ended up causing him to smack the wall hard.

After the wreckage Montoya left was cleared off the track, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Bell and Helio Castroneves would all run a three-man weave on the track and fight for positioning early.

After making several big moves around drivers early in the race, Bell would get a taste of his own medicine, as Castroneves would pass him for the lead.

Then the second big wreck of the day struck, as 21-year-old Sage Karam barrelled right into the wall, as he thought he had more room on the track.

The Indy 500 has seen plenty of moments over 100 years, but one of the stranger moments occurred between the two leaders at the time, when Bell and Hunter-Reay both wrecked into each other on pit road.

The strange moments didn’t stop on the track either. 1996 winner Buddy Lazier would lose his tire because of a loose wheel nut and he would have to roll around the track without a wheel before he came to a stop.

Finally, it was time to get back to racing and the battle for the lead got intense, as Castroneves, Tony Kanaan and Josef Newgarden battled for the lead up front.

There was a bit of misfortune for Castroneves, as contact broke the rear pod on his car and a 39-second pit stop would ensue from it.

The real battle at the end of the race would be between Carlos Munoz, Tony Kanaan and Josef Newgarden. Munoz, who hung low most of the day, would really prove to be the fastest late.
Then in improbable fashion, Alexander Rossi would win the race as a rookie on an economy run. The huge upset would be pulled off.
It was a moment that will forever be remembered.
