Rafael Nadal to miss Wimbledon with wrist injury.

After withdrawing a day before his third round match at the French Open last week, Rafael Nadal will now miss the upcoming Wimbledon Championship with a lingering left wrist injury.

The 14-time Grand Slam Champion and two-time Wimbledon winner released a statement via Facebook confirming his wrist injury as the reason he will not make the trip to the All England Club later this month.

"I wanted to announce that after consulting with my doctor and seen the results of the last medical check-up, I won’t be able to participate in the next edition of Wimbledon."

The last time the former world number one was on the court, at Roland Garros, he defeated Facundo Bagnis in straight sets after receiving an injection to numb the pain in his wrist. After the match Rafa admitted he began to feel more pain and would not be able to practice or finish the rest of the tournament.

Fellow tennis superstar Rodger Federer also missed the entire French Open with an ailing back, leaving an easy path to victory for the current world number one Novak Djokovic, who has now completed a career Grand Slam and currently holds all four major titles.

With Nadal missing another major tournament, Djokovic’s dominance may continue. However, Federer does seem to be in better physical health as he is currently playing in the Mercedes Cup and is on pace to play in this year’s Wimbledon Championship, which gets underway on June 27.
