For fantasy owners in need of some help on the hitting side this upcoming week, here are three hitters to add off the waiver wire

The weeks are flying by at seemingly warp speed and we now find ourselves in week 11. Some leagues are already be midway or further through the regular season. With the playoffs just a few short weeks away, it’s time to start gearing up. Every win will have a tremendous effect on the league from here on out. Start it off with a win in week 11.

More from Fantasy Baseball

  1. Zack Cozart (SS) – Reds

Zack Cozart, shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds, is one of the more underrated players in not only fantasy baseball, but the MLB as well. Cozart has been around since the 2011 season (all with Reds), and starting last year, he began to make a name for himself. Much more so than in previous seasons. Unfortunately for Cozart, 2015 was cut short due to a right knee injury. He was projected to be sidelined for the next nine months.

Cozart was off to a solid start to his where he averaged nearly 2.5 fantasy points per game last year depending on your scoring settings. He hit nine home runs and drove in 29 RBI last season in 53 games played.

Here in 2016, he is off to an even better start since returning from injury. He has hit nine home runs and 28 RBI so far this season in 53 games as well. He’s nearly putting up the same numbers while accumulating more hits than last year. He is currently batting .285 this season. Not too shabby for a player owned in less than 50% of ESPN leagues.

One stat that really stands out for me however, are his strikeouts. He does not strikeout a great deal which should be valued high by fantasy players. He has a K-rate below 14% which is well below the league average. Very promising from the 30-year-old. Cozart currently ranks just outside the top 10 in points for fantasy shortstops.

Putting up 2.5 points a game (roughly) is a great stat in fantasy, especially from a shortstop. Short stop is not the deepest of positions in the fantasy realm, so Cozart can be of great value for your team if you’re in need of some help.

2. Logan Forsythe (1B/2B) – Rays

Logan Forsythe, is fresh off the DL where he has spent much of the season thus far. He has missed the last two months with a hairline fracture on his left shoulder blade. Forsythe has arguably been the best hitter for the Rays while he has been healthy the past two seasons. Just last year, Forsythe ranked in the top 10 for second baseman in fantasy points. He certainly has the opportunity to do it again with the time he has left.

Forsythe was not shy at the plate in his first game back for the Rays either. He went 2/4 with an RBI and a run scored which accumulated four points for the second baseman. He is still up for grabs in 40% of leagues out there and can be a steal for many of you.

He possesses a lot of talent on the baseball field. With Forsythe also having a first base tag, this makes him that much more valuable for fantasy players.

In 2015, Forsythe hit for .281 with 17 home runs, 68 RBI, and 69 runs scored for the Rays. He finished just behind Evan Longoria last year in fantasy points for Tampa. I believe he is superior to Longoria at this point in their respective careers.

Longoria’s best years are behind him, and they appear to be just the beginning for Forsythe. He has a very high ceiling and can be an asset for your team moving forward.

3. Jayson Werth (OF) – Nationals

Everyone knows Jayson Werth and what he is capable of doing on the baseball field. Werth has been a productive fantasy player for many years. Always ranking among the top outfielders in the game. He is 37 years old however, and has shown declining stats the past couple of seasons.

Werth was also off to a pitiful start to the 2016 season, but recent weeks have suggested he may have found his stride once again. Great news for Nats fans and fantasy owners out there.

Werth has been on an absolute tear recently for Washington. In the last seven days, Werth ranks in the top 10 for fantasy outfielders in terms of points. In his last 10 games played, Werth has hit four home runs and drove in 13 RBI while scoring 8 runs.

He appears to be gaining confidence as he is seeing the ball better than he was previously and has found his power stroke once again.

So far on the season, Werth has a .239 batting average, which was in the low .200’s for much of the season. He has now hit 10 homers and driven in 33 RBI. He has also scored 30 runs for the Nationals thus far in 2016. He is owned in a mere 16.1% of ESPN leagues at the moment. This will increase in the coming weeks as fantasy owners begin to take notice of his productivity.

Players like Zack Cozart and Logan Forsythe are worthy of being in any starting lineup for fantasy owners. Werth has always proven to be a valuable outfielder, especially if he can keep up a consistent pace. Werth can finish the season with 20+ home runs and 80+ RBI, like he has done so many time before. Good luck this upcoming week.
