DraftKings Late MLB picks for June 23

The late tournament today has eight games, which still gives us a lot of options to choose from. Who are the best ones? Let’s check out the past stats.

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

John Lamb has never faced the Padres, but he has righted the ship some since a rough patch in the last half of May. Lamb has given up only seven runs in four June starts, with one of those coming in Coors Field. He looks like a good bet against San Diego.

Christian Friedrich has never started against the Reds, but they have racked up a .409 average against him in relief. You may want to look elsewhere.

Wei-Yin Chen has never faced the Cubs, but Zobrist is familiar with him….and he hit him hard. Now is not the time to gamble on Chen. After a solid start with Miami, he has surrendered 15 runs in his last three starts.

Best Bets:

Matt Wisler ($7,400): Wisler has had his ups and downs in his young career, but one thing has remained constant: he has dominated the Mets. The Mets are hitting only .179 off of Wisler in 84 at bats with just one homer, two RBI, and 15 strikeouts. The guy who hit the home run, David Wright, is on the disabled list. He last started against the Mets on May 3rd. He pitched eight shutout innings while giving up just one hit and two walks. You may see something similar to that tonight, and with the poor histories of Lester and Grienke against their opponents, that vaults Wisler to the top of the short stack.

Honorable Mention:

Tim Lincecum ($7,100): Lincecum wont be as good of a bargain as he was on Saturday when he was $1,000 cheaper. The results could be the same though. Against this same Oakland team, Lincecum racked up 15.3 DraftKings points, giving up just one run on four hits and two walks. He only struck out two, but you can expect some rust. Some of that should be shaken off by tonight. Expect similar results here in Anaheim.

Dark Horses:

Kendall Graveman ($4,500): Graveman gave up just three hits and a run to the Angels while striking out four on Friday. The Angels are hitting just .205 off of him in 73 at bats with two homers, only three runs, and 14 strikeouts. He could put up really good numbers at a great price once again.

Eddie Butler ($4,200): If you are really the gambling type, and really feel like betting against Greinke’s pedestrian stats at Coors Field, Butler could be your guy. His only start against Arizona came in Phoenix back in September of 2014. Butler was very good, giving up just one run on five hits through six innings. However, the venue, and part of that team, have changed. This is a very risky bet.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Zack Greinke has a 4.19 career ERA at Coors Field, and the current Rockies team has hit him well wherever he has pitched. The Rockies are hitting .281 in 224 at bats with eight homers, 29 RBI and only 45 strikeouts. Trevor Story ($4,300) is a big Greinke fan so far. Story is 3-7 with a double, two homers, and five RBI against Greinke already. Charlie Blackmon ($4,500) is 9-30 with two walks, three doubles, and three RBI. Carlos Gonzalez ($5,000) is 12-31(.387) with two walks, a double, a triple, four homers, and six RBI off of Greinke. DJ LeMahieu ($4,000) is 8-29(.276), but he has two doubles, a homer, and six RBI.

The current Marlins are hitting a whopping .360 in 100 at bats against Jon Lester. Adeiny Hechavarria ($2,900) is 2-5 with a homer and three RBI. Marcell Ozuna ($4,100), who has been on a tear lately, is perfect against Lester with a single, a walk, and a double. Martin Prado ($3,300) is 6-10 with three doubles and two RBI. Giancarlo Stanton ($3,200) has a solo homer in three at bats. Ichiro Suzuki ($3,600) is 19-56(.339) with a double, two homers, and four RBI against Lester.

Kole Calhoun ($4,000) is 4-11 with a solo homer against Kendall Graveman. Albert Pujols ($3,500) is 5-10 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI against Graveman. Use him if he plays!

A.J. Pierzynski ($2,400) has hit Matt Harvey very well. Pierzynski is 6-9 with a double and two RBI against Harvey. Fortunately for Harvey, the Mallex Smith is on he DL. Smith is 3-6 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Harvey.

Ben Zobrist ($4,700) is 15-40(.375) with four walks, three doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Wei-Yin Chen.

Khris Davis ($3,900) is 3-6 with two solo homers against Tim Lincecum.

Joey Votto ($4,500) is 4-5 with a double against Christian Friedrich.
