Five players that the Timberwolves must target in NBA free agency 2016

The Minnesota Timberwolves might have the brightest future of any team in the entirety of the NBA. They have two No. 1 overall picks on the roster already in Andrew Wiggins in Karl-Anthony Towns in addition to other highly valuable pieces such as Kris Dunn from the 2016 NBA Draft, Zach LaVine, and even a role player like Gorgui Dieng. If you had to guess, this would be the main selling point for the Timberwolves in NBA free agency.

Though they were just in the lottery last season, the Timberwolves definitely give the impression of a team ready to make the leap and the right group of free agent signings could vault them into contention for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Of course, the key for all of this would be that the Timberwolves have to find free agents on the market that fit. What’s interesting, though, is that their bright future with the core already in place puts them in a position where they can really swing for the fences in trying to add big-name free agents rather than just trying to fill out the rotation with mid-level signings—though they need to do that last part as well.

With that in mind, these five players should be the top targets for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2016 NBA free agency.
