MLB DFS: Stud and Steal of the Day July 18th
Welcome Back!
After a brief hiatus because of the all-star break, we’re back with the stud and steal of the day for MLB DFS! Looking at tonight’s slate of eleven baseball games, it can be daunting to decide who deserves a place in your lineup. Knowing which star player is worth the money can be the difference between a winning night and one that ends in failure. However, finding the hidden gems that perform well are equally as important because they can let you spend more on your starting pitchers. This article will touch on one expensive player who is primed to have a big night, and one cheap player whom you wouldn’t normally play but is a great play tonight in MLB DFS.
Past Plays:
6/27:Mike Trout:3/4, 1 HR, 2B, 2R’s 1 RBI
6/28: Josh Donaldson:2/5, 3B,BB,3 RBI’s,1R
6/28:Giancarlo Stanton :3/5, 1 HR, 2 1B, 3 RBI’s, 1 R
7/4:Kris Bryant: 1/1, 2 BB’s, 1 HR, 2 RBI’s
7/4:Travis d’Arnaud: 3/4, 1 HR, 2 1B’s, 2 RBI’s, 2 R’s
7/5:Buster Posey: 1/3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Next: The Stud of the Day
MLB DFS: Stud of the Day- Nolan Arenado, 3B ($5,500 DK, $4,600 FD)
I’m of the belief that there is nothing more enjoyable in life than spending time with the people you love… well that and using Nolan Arenado versus left-handed pitching at home. That’s right, fresh off of the all-star break its time to put your trust, (and money) behind the bat of the Rockies all-star third baseman. Arenado has a perfect matchup against left hander Drew Smyly and is in line for a monster game on Monday night at home. In case you need to refresh your memory, here is Arenado’s stat line vs. left-handed pitching at Coors Field,
Arenado vs. LHP @ Home: 17/45, .378 AVG, 5 2B’s , 3 HR’s,
As you can see, he absolutely mashes lefties in the hitter friendly ballpark. It helps even more however when the lefty that he’s facing is as poor of a pitcher as Smyly. While he has a decent strikeout rate, Smyly gives up a TON of home runs on the road to right-handed batters, (10 in just 40 innings pitched). Right handed batters also hit for a high average against Smyly, (.318) meaning that all of the big right handed bats for the Rockies should be in your lineups tonight if you can afford them.
If you decide to spend up at pitcher and can only fit one of the Rockies, make sure it’s Arenado. Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon are also great plays tonight but it will be tough to roster all three as they all have price points above $4,800 on Draftkings. I’d be shocked if at least one of the three doesn’t leave the yard, especially given the factor that the thinner air in Denver has on the baseball.
Next: The Steal of the Day
MLB DFS: Steal of the Day- Cameron Maybin, CF ($3,700 DK, $3,100 FD)
When looking for a value play in DFS look no further than Cameron Maybin of the Detroit Tigers. Going up against Ricky Nolasco means that all of the Tigers bats should be in play, Draftkings realized this and priced Miguel Cabrera, Nick Castellanos, and Ian Kinsler, over $4,700 accordingly. However, it appears that once again they have forgotten about Cameron Maybin who has absolutely killed right-handed pitching at home this season.
Maybin vs. RHP @ Home: 26/62, .419 AVG, 1 3B, 3 SB’s
Obviously his batting average for the year probably won’t be above .400 but right now Maybin is seeing the ball very well and once he gets on the base paths is always a threat to steal.

- Raiders: Saquon Barkley’s new contract may have screwed over Josh Jacobs
- Clark Hunt throws cold water on potential Chiefs throwbacks

Not enough people factor in points for stolen bases and this is a huge mistake as the 5 points you get plays a huge part in having a winning night. Right now Maybin is getting on base almost every other at bat vs. righties at home and this gives you more and more of a chance at a possible stolen base.
Ricky Nolasco vs. RHB on the Road: .300 AVG, 6 HR’s, 6 2B’s
On the flip side, Ricky Nolasco is a back-end of the rotation guy who will get beaten up by good hitting teams. I expect the Tigers’ right handed bats to send him to the showers early tonight so if you can afford Miggy, Kinsler, and Castellanos, to go along with Maybin I’d highly recommend it.
Good Luck to all of you playing tonight and may we all win money!
