DraftKings MLB: Top Pitching Options July 19th

Tonight’s slate is a full one. With 15 games on tap, I thought I’d take the time to explain my top pitching prospects for DraftKings MLB tonight.

In general, I analyze my pitchers off of a multitude of factors: “K” rate, “K” rate for the opposing team, handedness of opposing team vs. the pitcher, total number of projected runs for the opposing team, park factors, weather conditions, umps, money line, batted ball stats (GB/FB ratio, hard hit %), average velocity over a given time period, and others if the circumstances warrant.

July 19th Pitching Analysis:

Tonight I will be fading Jake Arrieta. Even though his price has dropped and the total projected runs is extremely low, I can’t feel confident investing the in the Cub’s ace. Jake has one of the highest hard hit percentages at 44% over the past 15 days. While I think the All Star break has given him a much-needed physical and mental rest, I’ll wait to see the product before buying my shares.

In that same game, I’ll be fading Thor as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a quality start, but with some other more appealing pitching options, I’ll be passing on the big man.

Carlos Martinez – STL ($10,200)

Carlos is my favorite pitcher taking the mound tonight. His price has increased, but I think I’ll be paying up for him in both cash and GPP contests. The Pros: his ability to strike batters out, facing a team with a high strikeout rate, playing at home, low projected opposing runs at just 3.2, a heavy favorite at -210, 67% ground ball rate of the last 15 days.

More from FanSided

Aaron Sanchez – TOR ($9,900)

Sanchez draws the D-Backs tonight in Arizona. While Sanchez isn’t the best strikeout artist going tonight, Arizona strikes out a ton against righties. Toronto is also a huge favorite at -190 and has seen big, and favorable, line movement over the course of the day. I plan of having Sanchez in my GPP lineups and possibly cash lineups too.

Vincent Velazquez – PHI ($9700)

After battling through injuries, Vinny has battled back and put together three quality starts. I like him for his strikeout rate, his low hard hit rate of 30% over the past 15 days, Miami’s high strikeout rate to righties, and Miami’s low total projected runs of 3.7. I think Velazquez will be in both my GPP and cash game lineups.

Jameson Taillon – PIT ($8,800)

Jameson will play the role of my flyer tonight. Milwaukee strikes out a ton and I think he could take advantage of this. The pirates have also seen some of the biggest line movement of the day going from roughly -120 to now around – 145. If the sharps are betting of the Buccos, then I think Jameson is worth the sprinkle
