Following a disgraceful exit from the Denver Nuggets organization in 2015, Ty Lawson has become a bit of an NBA journeyman, and is now awaiting his next destination.

Current NBA free agent Ty Lawson was a starter for the Denver Nuggets from 2009-2015. In the 2015-16 season, after being traded to the Houston Rockets, Lawson was released, only to then sign a short-term contract to finish the season with the Indiana Pacers.

“I’m not a person out here like everyone thinks that I’m drunk all day. I think there is a big misconception about what everybody thinks.”

Lawson was arrested four times for DUIs  from 2008-2015, which led him to enter rehab in 2015.

Now a free agent, Lawson awaits his future destination as he seeks a shot a redemption.

In an interview with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Lawson said that he feels he’s being “overlooked” in free agency, discounted by teams because of his troublesome past.

“I’m not a person out here like everyone thinks that I’m drunk all day,” Lawson told Spears. “I think there is a big misconception about what everybody thinks.”

Despite his troubles, Lawson was a very solid starter for the Nuggets. In his six seasons in Denver, Lawson averaged around 14.2 points, as well as 6.6 assists per game. However, following his trade to Houston, Lawson admitted he struggled to “be himself” on the basketball court.

“It would be big to be back to my old self again,” Lawson stated. “It’s not just for me, it’s for my parents…to make them proud again would mean the world to me.”

Interest levels in Lawson’s talents seem to be wearing thin. Although Indiana were reportedly interested in re-signing him, the team eventually went with a one-year deal for backup point guard Aaron Brooks. Sacramento has also reportedly been a favored landing spot of Lawson himself, though there has not been any publicly expressed interest from the team.
