Josh Gordon meets with Roger Goodell

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon met with Roger Goodell to discuss his status for the 2016 season following multiple failed drug tests.
After a season-long suspension in 2015, followed by a denied petition for reinstatement in April, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Rapoport later tweeted that while nothing was “imminent” regarding Gordon’s plea to return, the player was eligible to apply for reinstatement on August 1. Gordon’s April reinstatement was denied due to diluted drug test samples administered in March, which found traces of marijuana.
Gordon’s desire to return to the NFL for the 2016 regular season comes after multiple failed drug tests for the fourth-year man out of Utah.
In 2013, Gordon was suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In 2014, Gordon was suspended from the NFL for a year, following an arrest for driving while impaired, though that suspension was reduced to 10 games following an appeal process.
Later that same year, the receiver tested positive for alcohol use while still partaking in the league’s substance abuse program, resulting in another one-year ban, which this time was upheld. Gordon was eligible for reinstatement in March, when the diluted samples were taken and the reinstatement decision was delayed.
If reinstated, Gordon would return to a Cleveland Browns roster that is void of any talented receiving threats, and and an offense that will be led by a new quarterback in Robert Griffin III.
