MLB rumors: White Sox taking calls on Chris Sale, Jose Quintana
By Matt Couden
In the latest MLB rumors, the Chicago White Sox are said to be taking calls on both Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, with the Boston Red Sox among the suitors.
Could a blockbuster trade be on the way in Major League Baseball? There are reports circulating that the Chicago White Sox are taking calls on two of their players, including pitching ace Chris Sale. The list is also said to be long of interested teams, with the American East leaders, the Boston Red Sox, among those interested.
It’s been said by Jim Bowden of ESPN Insider, that when it comes to Chicago’s current record near the .500 mark and their lack of a strong farm system, they could be forced to make some trades involving veteran stars. That could mean parting ways with one of the top pitchers in the game today.
So far, it seems that the two teams with the best shot at picking up Sale from Chicago would be the Red Sox and the Dodgers, due to their payroll and prospect stash. However, it’s still to be decided how seriously Chicago will shop those two stars and no certainty it will happen due to how much the White Sox love them on their roster.
The success of the Red Sox so far this season has been thanks to the strength of the bats in their lineup. They lead the league in runs with 37 more than the next-closest team, St. Louis. However, when it comes to pitching, Boston ranks near the middle of the pack with an average ERA for their pitching staff of 4.32. Adding Sale would certainly help boost their playoff chances as he would join Boston’s ace Steven Wright who currently leads all pitchers with a 2.67 ERA.

Also potentially on the move for the White Sox could be fellow All-Star Jose Quintana. So far this season, the left-hander has recorded an 8-8 record with 112 strikeouts and a 3.13 ERA. Don’t be surprised if one or both of these pitchers gets shifted to another city so that the White Sox can try to bolster their roster in an attempt to compete with the American League.
