Recent MLB trade rumors have been about the San Francisco Giants missing out on adding an arm to their bullpen.

With the MLB trade deadline just a day away, there have been plenty of MLB trade rumors going around. One of the biggest deals that was recently completed was the Washington Nationals acquiring closer Mark Melancon from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

According to Jerry Crasnick, the San Francisco Giants were one of the teams that were interested that were interested in Melancon before he was traded. Now that the New York Yankees have traded Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians, the Giants might be the odd team out when it comes to trying to upgrade their bullpen.

In the National League, the Giants two main competitors, the Chicago Cubs, and Nationals have both added closers for their postseason run. As the likely winner of the NL West, the Giants were on the same level with the Cubs and the Nationals, but the recent moves by those two teams to acquire Aroldis Chapman and Melancon might put them on the next level.

The options have become extremely limited now for the Giants to make an impact move like their competition in the National League. The Giants might need to try and upgrade in other areas to make up for what they lack in the bullpen since they won’t be able to acquire an All-Star caliber closer.

Giants closer Santiago Casilla has been better in July, as he has totaled six saves and a 3.38 ERA. It was a good bounce-back month for him after the dreadful June, and the Giants might have to hope that the poor month of June is behind him, as they move toward the postseason.

The Giants will still be active buyers at the trade deadline, but don’t expect them to be able to make a move to match the Cubs or the Nationals.
