The San Francisco Giants have seemingly found a way to bolster their bullpen by acquiring Will Smith.

The San Francisco Giants stand two games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. With the MLB Trade Deadline hours away, they were looking for moves to keep that lead.

The Milwaukee Brewers have been involved in plenty of trade rumors over the past few weeks. Most notably, they nearly traded catcher Jonathan Lucroy to the Cleveland Indians. However, the deal fell apart when Lucroy used his no-trade clause.

Well, the Brewers made a deal at the MLB Trade Deadline that didn’t include the All-Star catcher. They traded reliever Will Smith to the Giants, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball says the return is pitcher Phil Bickford and catcher Andrew Susac.

Smith has worked as a set-up man for the Brewers in 2016, notching a 3.68 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 22 innings. He’ll likely slot into the back end of the Giants bullpen.

Bickford was a 2015 fist round pick of the Giants, and had tallied a 2.71 ERA with 105 strikeouts over 93 innings thus far this season.

Susac, meanwhile, is a catcher that has gone back and forth between Triple-A and serving as Buster Posey’s backup.
