NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.
Brock Stewart will come up to give Kenta Maeda an extra day of rest. He gave up five runs in Milwaukee on June 29th in his first major league start. That translates to about 12.5 runs at Coors Field.
Tyler Anderson has never faced the Dodgers, but he has put up a very good 3.47 ERA at Coors Field in six starts. I see no reason not to use him again.
The current Yankees have only faced Steven Matz 11 times, but they have no runs and two strikeouts. The Yankees are no longer a formidable lineup, especially without Carlos Beltran. Matz should be a solid play here.
Cody Reed has never faced the Cardinals, but his 7.07 ERA should tell you all you need to know. Stay away from this and stack Cardinals!
Aaron Nola only lasted 3.1 innings in his only start against the Giants on June 26th. He gave up five runs on ten hits in that outing. He may not be that bad again, but I wouldn’t trust him anyway.

Best Bet:
Marco Estrada ($9,900): Cueto, Sale, Hamels, and Porcello don’t have very good histories against tonight’s opponent. That leaves Estrada, who has given up four homers and seven RBI to the Astros in only 51 at bats. However, further examination shows that most of the damage was done by Luis Valbuena, who is on the DL. The rest of the team is 8-33(.242) with two homers and four RBI and eight strikeouts. Those are solid enough numbers to use tonight.
Kevin Gausman ($6,700): At first glance, this looks ridiculous. The Rangers are hitting .322 against Gausman with three homers and nine RBI. A closer look reveals that Shin-Soo Choo and Prince Fielder are responsible for two of those homers and five of the RBI. If you take away the stats of Choo and Fielder, the average still sits at .303, but the rest of the team has just one home run and four RBI in 66 at bats. The downside is that they only have seven strikeouts.
Honorable Mention:
Michael Wacha ($6,000): The Reds are hitting a solid .263 against Wacha with only two homers and eight RBI in 118 at bats. He only has 12 strikeouts and he gives up the hits, but he doesn’t allow much for runs. When you realize that Devin Mesoraco, who is on the DL, has half the homers and RBI, it makes Wacha look even better.
Kendall Graveman ($5,700): The Angels are hitting .250 off of Graveman in 88 at bats with two homers, only five runs, and 14 strikeouts. The strikeouts are a little low and the Angels are on fire of late, but Graveman has only allowed four runs to the Angels in 19.2 innings pitched this year. The low strikeouts always leave no margin for error, but he hasn’t needed it against the Angels so far.
Dark Horses:
Jered Weaver ($4,700): Weaver is not the Weaver of old – his season ERA is more than a run and a half above his career mark – but this is about checking out past stats. Weaver has held the A’s to a .226 average in 283 at bats with six homers, 22 runs, and 42 strikeouts. If he can come anywhere near those averages, he will produce well for his price.
Tyler Duffey ($4,000): Am I nuts? Maybe, but hear me out. Cleveland is only hitting .213 against Duffey in 80 at bats with only one homer, only five runs, and an impressive 21 strikeouts. You are playing with fire if you use Duffey, but after what the Twins have done to Cleveland the last two days, it may not be such a bad idea.
Next: Who Are The Best Stacks?
You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.
The only reason I suggest stacking Tigers against Chris Sale is because of the homers. The Tigers have hit 12 off of him. Miguel Cabrera ($4,500) is only 9-38(.237) against Sale, but he has ten walks, two homers, and four RBI. Mike Aviles ($2,200) is only 7-37(.189), but he has two walks, a homer, and two RBI. If you play him, you are just hoping for him to go deep. Ian Kinsler ($4,300) is only 7-34(.206), but he has five walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI. Jose Iglesias ($3,000) is 7-17(.412) with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Sale. Victor Martinez ($3,200) is 18-36 with three walks, three doubles, four homers, and nine RBI against Sale. He is one of the few that has hit Sale hard.
Robinson Cano ($4,500) is 10-27(.370) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Rick Porcello. Adam Lind ($2,800) is just 4-8(.222) against Porcello, but he does have two walks, a double, two homers, and four RBI. Seth Smith ($3,200) is 9-16(.563) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, and a RBI. Leonys Martin ($3,300) is 6-13 with two walks, a triple, and a RBI off Porcello.
You can’t accurately say that any Oakland players have owned Jered Weaver, but some have hit him hard when they have hit him. Jed Lowrie ($2,700) is only 8-38(.211) against Weaver, but he has three doubles, a homer, and seven RBI. Billy Butler ($3,100) is only 8-39(.205), but he has a walk, a double, a homer, and five RBI. Danny Valencia ($3,700) is 5-23(.217), but he has a double, two homers, and three RBI. Stephen Vogt ($3,300) has enjoyed the most success off of Weaver, going 9-28(.321) with two walks, two doubles, two homers, and four RBI.
You may want to stack Blue Jays against Collin McHugh. Jose Bautista ($4,100) is 2-7 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI against McHugh. Russell Martin ($3,600) is 4-6 with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Michael Saunders ($4,400) is 5-12 with a walk, two homers, and five RBI against McHugh.
Joe Mauer ($4,400) is 6-22(.273) with two walks, three doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Trevor Bauer. Kennys Vargas ($3,900) is 7-13(.538) with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI. Eddie Rosario ($3,900) is 6-14 with a double, a homer, and three RBI off of Bauer. Jorge Polanco ($3,300) is 1-3 with a solo homer against Bauer. Juan Centeno ($2,900) is 3-6 with two doubles and two RBI against Bauer. He is worth using if he starts.
Next: More Notes For 8-3
Odubel Herrera ($4,500) is 2-7 with a double, a homer, and two RBI against Johnny Cueto. Ryan Howard ($2,900) is only 4-21(.190), but he has four walks, two doubles, a triple, and a solo homer.
J.J. Hardy ($2,600) is 5-15 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and five RBI against Cole Hamels. Mark Trumbo ($3,700) is also 5-15 against Hamels with two solo homers.
Justin Morneau ($2,800) is 1-2 with a three run homer off of Michael Fulmer. Jose Abreu ($3,500) is 2-2 with a walk, a double, and two RBI against Fulmer.
Evan Longoria ($3,800) is 5-15 with a double and three RBI against Edinson Volquez. Corey Dickerson ($3,700) is 3-8 with a walk, two doubles, and a RBI off Volquez.
Ian Desmond ($4,500) is 2-8 with a solo homer against Kevin Gausman. Carlos Beltran ($3,900) is 4-12 with a walk, two doubles, and a RBI.
Jeff Francoeur ($4,000) is 3-5 with a walk, a double, and a solo homer against Jeff Locke. Matt Kemp ($4,800) is 5-10 with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Locke.
Kole Calhoun ($3,600) is 4-14(.286) with a double and a solo homer against Kendall Graveman. Albert Pujols ($3,900) is 5-13(.385) with two walks, a homer, and two RBI.
Alex Gordon ($2,700) is 3-7 with a homer and five RBI against Jake Odorizzi. Eric Hosmer ($3,400) is 5-10 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Odorizzi.
David Ortiz ($5,300) is 5-10 with two walks, a double, three homers, and six RBI against Hisashi Iwakuma. Dustin Pedroia ($3,900) is 3-12 with a walk, a homer, and four RBI against Iwakuma.
Evan Gattis ($3,300) is 2-6 with a homer and two RBI against Marco Estrada. Colby Rasmus ($3,000) is only 1-4, but that hit is a solo homer. Jose Altuve ($5,600) is 4-11 with a walk and a RBI.
Joey Votto ($5,000) is 8-21(.381) with four walks, three doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Michael Wacha. Zack Cozart ($3,800) is 10-20 with a double and a triple, but has no counting stats.
