According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, ESPN’s Todd Archer spoke with Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones about the health of rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott. Jones informed Archer that Elliott will end up missing some time with a hamstring injury suffered during Cowboys training camp on Wednesday.

Jones didn’t indicate a time frame for Elliott’s recovery, but the Cowboys have had an awful last two days with regards to the health of key player on the offensive side of the ball. Tony Romo’s backup Kellen Moore fractured his right leg in training camp on Tuesday.
Unless Jones’ father Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to roll the dice with rookie Dak Prescott as Romo’s backup, expect Dallas to try to upgrade their quarterback room with the likes of free agent Nick Foles, Cleveland Browns backup Josh McCown, or Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Mike Glennon via trade.
Dallas decided it was in the best interest of their football team to use the No. 4 overall draft pick on the strong Ohio State Buckeyes running back Elliott over Florida State Seminoles defensive back standout Jalen Ramsey, who went to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the next pick at No. 5.
Many tabbed Elliott to be a top-tier running back prospect truly worthy of a first-round selection like Adrian Peterson with the Minnesota Vikings in 2007 and Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams in 2015.
Elliott is considered to be the very best pass blocking running back to come into the NFL. He starred for the Buckeyes in college, helping Ohio State win the first College Football Playoff in 2015.
While Dallas has a great starting quarterback in Romo, arguably the best offensive line in football, and strong receiving targets like wide receiver Dez Bryant and tight end Jason Witten, even as a rookie Elliott was supposedly going to be a huge part of the Cowboys’ overall success this season.
A hamstring injury will keep him off the field for most of the preseason. Since this is his rookie year in the NFL, this doesn’t seem very good for either Elliott or the Cowboys for that matter.
