DraftKings MLB Picks: Top Bargain plays for August 17th (7:00 PM Only)

Finding value can be the ever so elusive, ā€œHoly Grail.ā€ Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLBĀ picks.

Well ladies and gents, I hope you played Chase Utley last night. Most of last night’s bargain plays were able to reach or exceed value, but my god, Utley had a monster game. Odds are, if you didn’t have the former Phillie returning home, you weren’t taking down any tournaments.

I’ll look to find a repeat of Utley’s performance, on tonight’s 10 game slate. The night slate will dodge the game in Colorado, but there are still a few teams that standout as the favorites to score the most runs. The Cubs, the biggest favorite tonight at -280, are projected at 6.1 runs, followed by Cleveland at 5.6 runs, and Arizona at 5.3 runs. The Cubs have a lot of under priced players tonight that should provide value, but at the cost of high ownership. Here are my recommend bargain bin plays for tonight’s slate.

Miguel Montero – CHC (C) – $3100

Montero is shaping up to be one of the better plays at the catching position. Montero will face the righty, Nelson, tonight. Montero holds a .316 wOBA against righties and is very cheap given the projected team total.

Philip Gosselin – ARI (2B) – $3400

Arizona should put a few runs tonight and Gosselin will provide value if he’s batting second.

Chris Coghlan – CHC (2B/3B) – $2900

Coghlan will be my favorite play tonight under the $3000 salary mark. He fares much better against righties and even with his struggles this season, he’s too cheap for a team projected to score 6 runs.

Chase Utley – LAD (2B) – $3900

Might as well go back for seconds right? Utley will face another righty tonight, Thompson. The Dodgers are projected to score 5.1 runs, and Utley, being the lead off man, should benefit.

Matt Sczcur – CHC (OF) – $3800

Another Cubby, Sczcur will only be of value if he’s leading off. His match up facing a righty isn’t all that appetizing, but his position in the order and the projected team total make him under priced.

Tyler Collins – DET (OF) – $2600

If you need to spend down at the outfield position, Collins is extremely cheap and in a good match up. Collins faces a righty tonight, where he holds a .317 wOBA.
