Heroes laugh and sit down with new Overwatch emotes
Blizzard released a new patch on PTR this week that bring a lot of improvements, additions, and changes to Overwatch.
Overwatch’s newest patch is currently live on test servers. According to the detailed patch notes which Blizzard has released, this patch contains many tweaks that may be made to the game in the future.
A big portion of the patch contains all of the changes that will be coming to season two of competitive play. Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan announced these changes via a video earlier this week.
Character adjustments have also been included in the patch. In particular, Mei and Mercy have been buffed while Genji has been nerfed. Zenyatta was also affected, with his Orb of Discord becoming less effective while his Orb of Destruction becomes more.
Indeed, this newest patch contains a lot of technical changes to the game and reading through the detailed patch notes is interesting. But patch notes just don’t do justice to the single best part of it: new character emotes.
Here’s a video of all of the new emotes courtesy of Seba:
All heroes now have an emote that brings them to a sitting or laying position. All heroes also have an emote where they are laughing, as uncharacteristic as that is for the likes of Reaper.
Already, players on the PTR are having a field day with using the sitting emote at inappropriate but hilarious times. We’ve seen Junkrat relaxing on a bench in Volskaya. We’ve seen Symmetra sit patiently while she watches opponents get slaughtered by her turrets, channeling her best Bond villain. We’ve also seen entire teams just take a seat mid-match.

However, by far the best emote is “gremlin D.Va.” Fans of Overwatch have created a character for D.Va based on the fact that she has a career as a professional gamer. Fanart sprouted up everywhere depicting D.Va engaging in stereotypical gamer behavior — stuffing her face full of Mountain Dew and junk food while never taking her eyes off her screen.
And now Blizzard has made gremlin D.Va an in-game reality as one of D.Va’s new emotes has her settling down in her mecha for some game-streaming, snacks, and Dew.
We feel you, D.Va. We feel you.
