WWE SummerSlam 2016 results: Roman Reigns vs Rusev full video highlights

In Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam 2016 results, Roman Reigns battled Rusev for the WWE United States Championship.

At WWE SummerSlam in Brooklyn, New York, Roman Reigns finally got his hands on Rusev, and vice versa. For Reigns, it was a chance at redemption following the loss of his WWE World Heavyweight Championship weeks ago.

For Rusev it would be his chance to not only defend the championship but also his wife Lana’s honor. Reigns had recently crashed the big wedding celebration event for the married couple on Raw. So how did the results go for the United States Championship match at SummerSlam?

The two competitors brawled on the outside early with Rusev able to toss Reigns into both sets of ring steps. Reigns then continued the assault and focused on the left arm that had been hurt during their Raw encounter.

With the bell never ringing to start things, the two continued to battle on the outside with their fight spilling into the timekeeper’s area. Eventually, the assault became so vicious that a number of referees got involved to pull the two competitors apart.

Reigns got sent backstage. An announcement was made over the speakers that the ringside doctors declared Rusev unable to physically compete so the match was called off. That didn’t sit well with Reigns, who decided to make his return down the ramp for a huge spear.

Here’s another look at Reigns connecting on that spear down the ramp to do some further damage to Rusev’s ribs.

It was the only match of the night that finished in such a strange way. It also may have let many fans down who were expecting an actual championship bout. It certainly had Lana looking concerned, but probably more so for her husband.

There were also many fans who believed that Reigns was going to redeem himself and walk off as the new United States Champion. However, this outcome may have set up a future bout between them.

So what’s next for this feud and title defense? Perhaps Reigns will call out Rusev on Raw, or it will set up some sort of tournament where everyone is competing for a vacant U.S. championship.
