Football is incredibly weird sometimes. College football makes even the most sober person wonder if they’re okay. Then, there’s what happened in the game between Division-III Cortland and Utica on Saturday.

If you were in attendance for the game between Division-III SUNY Cortland and Utica or watching online/at home on Saturday, you had your Kirk Gibson moment. You couldn’t believe what you just saw.

Utica led Cortland early in the second quarter, 9-7.

That’s when things got strange.

Cortland’s freshman quarterback DeAngelo Walker ran a play fake in the backfield off a zone read look to running back Alex Wasserman. Walker rolled right out of the pocket became of the incoming pressure from Utica.

As Walker rolled out, he threw the ball towards the sideline at receiver Carlton Ekiyor.

This is where things get good.

Ekiyor couldn’t haul in the pass with a flying defender in his face. The ball then goes up in the air, off his back as he goes to the ground, off the helmet of Utica defender Matthew McCoy and into the hands of Dehstin Smart.

Here, just watch it.

The description — or attempt there of — wouldn’t do this play justice in a million years. How does this even happen?

You can watch the play over and over and it doesn’t make any sense no matter how many times you watch it. That’s one of those plays where you throw the controller across the room and walk out if you’re playing one of the college football games on Playstation or Xbox.

The player that finally came up with the bouncing ball of chaos — Dehstin Smart — is a 5’11”, 200-pound sophomore from Paterson, N.J., and is studying … wait for it … cybersecurity.

No, seriously.
