Penn State kicker Joey Julius levels a Michigan returner (Video)

Penn State kicker, and noted big man, Joey Julius collided with Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis like a mack truck on a punt return.

Jabrill Peppers may be Michigan’s three-way star, but Jourdan Lewis wants to have a go at it as well. A cornerback by trade, Lewis told Jim Harbaugh in training camp that he wanted to play on offense. And in his first game of the season, against Penn State, he’s been given a heavier workload by his coach.

In addition to helping shut down Penn State’s offense, Lewis is on kick-return duties. While he would’ve been pleasantly surprised if he got a touchdown, he certainly wouldn’t have expected this. With the game well out of reach, Penn State kicker Joey Julius decided to give Lewis a reminder of how tough special teams can be:

At 258 pounds, Joey Julius is built like a lineman, but he has made a career of being a kicker instead. But after seeing this hit, who says that kickers are only good for getting field goals? Perhaps now, Jourdan Lewis can appreciate how tough of a job Jabrill Peppers has, and will think twice about wanting to play a special teams role.

The reason Jourdan Lewis was held out until Week 4 was because of a lingering injury. Michigan didn’t face any high quality opponents in their non-conference games, but Lewis will be vital for their Big Ten schedule. Michigan fans would hate it if he left after the game was out of reach, especially since he just came back. But since he appears to be fine, he’ll most likely laugh this off.
