Notre Dame Fighting Irish star quarterback DeShone Kizer connects with wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown for an early 79-yard touchdown pass on Syracuse.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are largely playing for pride this season after falling to 1-3 in their first four games of 2016. However, they do have one great quarterback prospect in signal caller DeShone Kizer.

Kizer might be the first quarterback off the board in the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s looking like a top-five pick early in his Week 5 game against the Syracuse Orange. Here he is connecting with wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown on a 79-yard touchdown pass.

Kizer assesses the Orange defense before throwing a dart to St. Brown at the Notre Dame 35-yard line. This was Notre Dame’s first play from scrimmage. Syracuse has had a miserable time this season preventing the big play. The Orange had that defense that Louisville Cardinals Heisman front-runner Lamar Jackson had his coming out party against in Week 2.

This game at neutral-site MetLife Stadium could be a high-scoring affair on Saturday. Notre Dame has already fired its defensive coordinator in Brian VanGorder. Syracuse does have a good first-year head coach in Dino Babers and starting quarterback Eric Dungey. However, the Orange defense remains a work in progress.

It’s not going to be the best year for either team, but at least the quarterback play at both schools should be solid. Kizer might be the best offensive pro prospect to come out of Notre Dame since tight end Tyler Eifert.

This was a bad read by the Orange defense for sure, but Kizer made an NFL read on that slant to St. Brown. He has the arm strength and the poise to play on Sundays. Could he be the next franchise quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, or San Francisco 49ers?
