The Oklahoma State Cowboys are probably out of the College Football Playoff picture after their Week 4 loss to the Baylor Bears. That loss dropped the Cowboys to 2-2 on the year. The Big 12 might end up being the Power 5 conference left out of the College Football Playoff this season.
Oklahoma State does have a solid signal caller in quarterback Mason Rudolph. Here he is throwing a 54-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver James Washington. This paydirt put the Cowboys up 14-0 on the No. 22 Texas Longhorns on Saturday.
Oklahoma State is still one of the better teams in the Big 12 in 2016. Baylor might be the conference’s best shot at getting invited to the third annual College Football Playoff. However, Texas seems to be on the rise under third-year head coach Charlie Strong.

Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy is one of the more stable coaches in the Power 5. His team is usually around a 10-win program annually. Under Gundy, the Cowboys have been a top-15 program in the country for the last decade.
Oklahoma State has its ebbs and flows as a Big 12 power. The Cowboys can put together impressive runs in conference play, but have yet to completely run the table in the Big 12. A few years ago, Oklahoma State dropped a road game to Iowa State in Ames that cost them a chance at playing for the 2011 National Championship.

The Cowboys can still get a New Year’s Six bowl bid if they run the table and finish 10-2 (8-1) on the year. However, a third loss essentially knocks them out of playing in a meaningful bowl game. That shocking defeat at home in Week 2 to the Central Michigan Chippewas will come back to haunt Oklahoma State.
