The Penn State Nittany Lions host the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday as both teams look for their first Big Ten of the year.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers will open their Big Ten slate against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, after opening up the 2016 season with a 3-0 record out of conference. The Golden Gophers will take on the Nittany Lions in Beaver Stadium, which is always a rowdy place to play. Both teams have a solid rushing attack, and it should definitely be a tight game throughout.

For the season, Minnesota is averaging 228.3 yards per game on the ground, led by running back Rodney Smith. Smith has rushed for almost 300 yards this season while scoring five times. Quarterback Mitch Leidner is a dual-threat option at the position, who has thrown for four touchdowns and ran for three this season. The Penn State defense will definitely spy him all day if they want to come away with the victory.

Penn State’s offense is led by star running back Saquon Barkley, who is one of the best backs in college football. He is not as well-known as most backs, but he has the complete game that should translate to the NFL. He has rushed for 317 yards in four games this season, despite missing time with an injury. Barkley also leads the team with six rushing touchdowns.

Trace McSorley had the task of replacing Christian Hackenberg and so far proven to be inconsistent in his first year as the starter. He distributes the ball very well and seems to get better each week so expectations are high for him vs. Minnesota.

Penn State should win because they are home, but Minnesota could easily come in and grab the upset.
