In an exciting first game of the American League Division Series, the Cleveland Indians shocked the Boston Red Sox pitching to take Game 1 with a final score of 5-4.

The Cleveland Indians took Game 1 of the American League Division Series over the Boston Red Sox Thursday night. Boston got on the board early, but the Indians came back to win 5-4.

Boston looked like the dominant team by getting on the board early in the game when Hanley Ramirez doubled, scoring Dustin Pedroia. Boston was up 1-0. The Indians came back in the next inning when Jose Ramirez scored off of a Lonnie Chisenhall single.

The real action of the game came in the bottom of the third inning. Rick Porcello’s night came apart when Roberto Perez hit a home run on a full count. The Indians went up 2-1 over the Sox, but they weren’t done yet. Jason Kipnis came to the plate and nailed a homer on the second pitch. After Kipnis came Francisco Lindor, who also hit a home run off the second pitch. The Indians finished the inning up 4-2.

Boston answered in the fifth inning when Sandy Leon knocked one out of the park on a 3-2 count. Brock Holt hit a homer of his own in the top of the eighth inning to bring the Red Sox within one.

By the time the ninth inning came around, the Indians were still up 5-4. Jose Ramirez hit a single, but then Lonnie Chisenhall’s grounder turned a double play. Coco Crisp finished the inning with a ground out.
