The Cleveland Indians go up 2-0 in the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox with a 6-0 shutout win in Game 2.

The last time the Cleveland Indians had a shutout game in the postseason was way back in Game 1 at the 2001 American League Division Series when Bartolo Colon threw a 5-0 shutout against the Seattle Mariners.

The drought ended Friday in Game 2 of the 2016 ALDS when the Indians went 6-0 against the Red Sox thanks to a strong showing from Corey Kluber, who clearly benefited from the extra day of rest.

The Indians’ scoring fest started in the bottom of the second inning with a Brandon Guyer single that drove in Carlos Santana. That put the Indians up 1-0, but then Lonnie Chisenhall came up and smashed a three-run homer that put the Tribe up 4-0.

Jason Kipnis drove in Roberto Perez in the fourth inning, and Brandon Guyer scored on a Rajal Davis sac fly in the sixth inning. The Indians took control of the game from the start and the Red Sox never had a chance.

Pitcher Corey Kluber had a great day, allowing only three hits in seven innings of work with seven punch outs. David Price, on the other hand, only pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed six hits and five earned runs.

Lonnie Chisenhall had another impressive game, going 1-4 with a three-run homer and 3 RBI. Teammate Brandon Guyer went .304 with two runs and an RBI. For the Red Sox, David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez were both 0-4.

To put the Red Sox pitching situation into perspective, if you look at the combined numbers of Rick Porcello’s start in Game 1 and David Price’s numbers in Game 2, they combined for 12 hits, 10 earned runs and four home runs allowed in 7 2/3 innings of work.
