The Los Angeles Rams took Jared Goff first overall in the 2016 NFL draft but he has yet to see the field. Now, after a 3-4 start to the season, it’s time to hand the ball over to him.

The Los Angeles Rams lost their third straight game this past weekend while in London. They now are in their bye week with a 3-4 record while Jeff Fisher enters the conversation of coaches with the most career losses. He currently has 160 career losses and only needs five more for the most ever.

During Hard Knocks this offseason, Fisher told the Rams players, “I ’m not f—— going 7–9. Or 8–8, or 9–7, OK? Or 10–6, for that matter. This team’s too talented. I’m not going to settle for that.” Now, as the 2016 season is about halfway over, it looks like the Rams will be 7-9 or an 8-8 type team.

According to FiveThirtyEight’s latest NFL forecast, the Rams have a 10 percent chance at making the playoffs. So why doesn’t Los Angeles change things up by starting former No. 1 overall draft pick, Jared Goff? If this season is lost, then starting Goff is a commitment towards the future and if he happens to succeed, then the season may be saved.

At 3-4 the Rams need to do something and for the following five reasons, starting Goff is the right move.

5. The Rams are on a bye week

The perfect way to transition from one quarterback to another midseason, is during the bye week. After Los Angeles and New York player in London, both teams were given the typical bye. The Rams follow their bye with a home game against Carolina.

After the disappointing performance by the Rams and Case Keenum, Jeff Fisher claims that Keenum will remain the starting quarterback. But with 14 days between games to prepare for a horrendous secondary, why not put the ball in Goff’s hands.

During this week, Goff has received some of the first team reps so a change may come prior to November 6 game in the Coliseum. In their first season in Los Angeles, the Rams have headlined the news with Hard Knocks, the first overall draft pick, and now with a quarterback controversy. But now is the time, and if Fisher wanted the smoothest mid-season transition between quarterbacks, the bye week is the time.
