With the Chicago Cubs having won the 2016 World Series, fans reacted to their team winning their first title in over 100 years.
The Chicago Cubs had been down for the past 108 years as they weren’t able to capture a World Series. It seemed like an endless task for them to be able to win another, especially after the 2003 NLCS. This infamously saw a fan named Steve Bartman interfere with a fly ball in foul territory and extend this supposed curse of theirs..
However, in 2016, the Cubs would get their chance at the World Series after arguably becoming baseball’s best team. They beat the Giants and Dodgers to earn the right to face the Indians.
The Cubs would fall to a 3-1 deficit. They bounced back and took Game 5 at Wrigley Field, went to Cleveland and won back to back games to close out the series, including 8-7 in 10 innings in Game 7. So for the first time since 1908, the Cubs can be called World Series champions.
This has obviously been a long time coming for the Chicago Cubs franchise and their fans, some of whom have been waiting decades for this moment.
As expected, Cubs fans took over Twitter after the game. They exploded in excitement for their team winning the World Series and couldn’t believe what was happening.
