Birmingham Bowl Odds And Prediction
Bowl season is more than half over, but we are really kicking it into high gear now! This is the lightest day left on the schedule besides New Year’s Day, which the NFL has taken for its own. Kicking off today is the Birmingham Bowl!

South Florida(-10.5) vs. South Carolina at Birmingham, AL(3):
South Florida(10-2, 7-1 AAC):
Wins: vs. Towson(56-20), vs. Northern Illinois(48-17), at Syracuse(45-20), at Cincinnati(45-20), vs. East Carolina(38-22), vs. Connecticut(42-27), vs. Navy(52-45), at Memphis(49-42), at SMU(35-27), vs. Central Florida(48-31)
Losses: vs. Florida State(35-55), at Temple(30-46)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-2
The Bulls have an electric offense led by QB Quinton Flowers. He is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in college, but also one of the least talked about because he doesn’t play for a major team. The South Florida defense has had some issues though. Northern Illinois was the only team they held to under 20 points. That said, the Bulls had thrilling wins against three bowl teams and a surging SMU team to close out the season. They are doing something right.
South Carolina(6-6, 3-5 SEC):
Wins: at Vanderbilt(13-10), vs. East Carolina(20-15), vs. Massachusetts(34-28), vs. Tennessee(24-21), vs. Missouri(31-21), vs. Western Carolina(44-31)
Losses: at Mississippi State(14-27), at Kentucky(10-17), vs. Texas A&M(13-24), vs. Georgia(14-28), at Florida(7-20), at Clemson(7-56)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-6
The Gamecock offense was a mess this year. So much so that 17 year old Jake Bentley is now the starting quarterback. The offense runs more smoothly with him in there, but he still makes mistakes. How can you not at that age? The Gamecocks have a bright future though. This is a very young team.
Prediction:
Will the loss of coach Willie Taggart have an adverse effect on the Bulls? That is the only reason that I have the points on this lower. The Bulls will give up points, but I just don’t see how South Carolina can keep up. I fully expect this team to run the table in the SEC East within the next couple of seasons, but that doesn’t help right now.
Pick: South Florida
