Well, to me it feels like it shouldn’t require a third-party to explain how much physical space a person takes up. There are moments like “Oh no, these pants don’t fit” and “Heck darn it, why won’t this entire pie fit in my mouth?” to remind us there are basic exacticalities as it relates to the human body. But there are also moments like “Awesome, I can reach up onto this very high cabinet to hide the pie so no one else eats it while I figure out a means of shoving the whole thing down my gullet in one hasty elbow motion” where we discover the possibilities of our somatic space.

These moments usually occur before adulthood, often sooner. For instance, I stopped using a car seat at fifteen years old. One might assume that a person whose job is to command his mass in motion might know what that mass does and how much of it it can do. Boban Marjanovic is special.

There have not been a lot of heartwarming moments for the Pistons this year. There has been some rancor, some disappointment, and a little bit of hubbub, but nothing much to make you enjoy life any more than not at all. However, when he’s taking a break from 15-point, 19-rebound games, this is what Boban brings.

I’d like to point out a few other special people in my life:

  • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is leading the “Boban, make your hands go in the air” rally. He’s barking, but in a pleasant bichon frise kind of way as opposed to the angry dalmatian kind of way. He’s hopping, he’s waving, and then he smiles. And I smiled too.
  • Tobias Harris can’t help but get into it either. The Boban hop turns into a Harris hop. He also smiles.
  • Marcus Morris goes straight to Boban for a hug after the play is over. Everyone is happy. Boban gives great hugs because his arms can actually wrap around you twice.

There was joy in a Pistons game for the first time in a long time. This is peak Boban Marjanovic. Will the Pistons rally around this moment? Will this galvanize the team?

Yeah, probably not, but it was nice.
