Report: Wade Phillips to become Rams’ defensive coordinator
According to Adam Schefter, Wade Phillips will become the next defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams.
The Los Angeles Rams have had themselves a busy day on Thursday. The team hired Sean McVay was head coach of the team, thus making him the youngest head coach in NFL history at currently 30 years old. They then turned their attention to longtime defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
On Thursday night, Adam Schefter reported that the team had reached an agreement with Phillips for him to become the team’s defensive coordinator. Phillips had become free to search for a new home once Gary Kubiak stepped down as coach of the Denver Broncos and the team revamped their coaching staff.
Phillips is one of the best coordinators in league history and has been around the game for a long time. He has all the credentials that have made him a proven coach in the league and his players have always had respect for what he has been able to do with a defense.
In Los Angeles, Phillips is going to have plenty of defensive players to work with. With a ferocious defensive line led by Aaron Donald, he will have players that can get after the quarterback and disrupt and opposing offense at will.
There are also young players with plenty of potential in the secondary and linebackers that have plenty of speed like Phillips likes. In Denver, he was able to draw up blitzes that could generate plenty of pressure and lead to the secondary producing big results. While the Rams are taking a chance with McVay at coach, this is the perfect coordinator to compliment him.
