Generation 2 Pokemon have finally come to Pokemon GO, along with a good amount of new in-game content.
This past Thursday, Pokemon GO added Generation 2 Pokemon into the game.
In late 2016, a couple of Gen 2 Pokemon were added into the game, but were only available in eggs. Players had to collect eggs from PokeStops, travel the necessary distance and hatch the egg for a chance to obtain the new “baby” Pokemon. These new Pokemon were rare and very few.
Now 80 Pokemon from the Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver GameBoy games have been officially added into the game. As expected, this expansion has caused a new uptick in popularity of the game.
In addition to the new Pokemon, new items and avatar customizations have been added to the game. Among the new items, two new Berries are now in the game that will aid players in catching Pokemon.
Nanab Berries look like pink bananas and can be fed to Pokemon to make them easier to catch. Specifically, Nanab Berries slow a Pokemon’s movements down to make aiming at them easier.
Pinap Berries look like pineapples and, after being fed to a Pokemon, will cause that Pokemon to come with more candies than it normally does when caught. Instead of the usual three candies, Pokemon fed a Pinap Berry will come with five.
Both of these Berries will not be replacing the Razz Berry, which has been in the game since its inception.

As a reminder, Razz Berries are fed to Pokemon to make it “easier to catch.” It is unclear exactly how the Berry helps make Pokemon easier to catch, but a Pokemon’s resistance to Pokeballs does decrease by a certain amount after being fed the Berry.
The Berry’s effects only last through one catch attempt. If the Pokemon does not stay in the Pokeball, a new Razz Berry will need to be fed to the Pokemon on the next attempt to make the Pokemon easier to catch.

Razz Berries can be obtained at PokeStops. They can be selected to use from the new item carousel interface which appears when engaging with Pokemon and attempting to capture them.
