It’s official. New Johto region Pokemon, 80 to be exact, are making their way to Pokemon GO sometime this week.

If you’re a fan of the Pokemon Silver and Gold games (Generation 2 Pokemon), then you may want to get back into Pokemon GO. The Pokemon Company and Niantic revealed that 80 Pokemon from the Johto region are headed to the game sometime this week. (Source: IGN)

In all honesty, this is pretty cool. It’s no secret that the game’s popularity has gone down a bit since launch. We’re being gentle as well. The game was a massive hit when it released, but it has definitely died down.

At this point, the game could use any little boost when it comes to content and this is the perfect thing to add. A big reason why most people stopped playing was because it became very redundant.

Catching and running into the same type of Pokemon over and over wasn’t very fun. We needed more variety and content as a whole and Niantic wants this for their consumers. But, they needed to do this in order to draw some attention back to the game.

Check out the new trailer below:

Speaking on the new update, some Pokemon we’ll see added later this week are the starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. There are a bunch of other Pokemon from the Johto region that you’ll be able to catch as well.

Some other features include new evolutions, new encounter gameplay, new berries, new avatars, and an expanded wardrobe. For example, there’s a new berry known as the Nanab Berry, which slows the movements of wild Pokemon.

A full list of all the Pokemon that will be added hasn’t been released just yet. But, we expect to learn more soon. If you were planning on playing again, now it may be a good time to return to Pokemon GO.
