The final lap of the Advance Auto Parts Clash was filled with some drama as Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski made contact as they were going racing to the finish line.

Joe Gibbs Racing showed why they are one of the better teams in NASCAR during the Advance Auto Parts Clash on Sunday. Denny Hamlin led the team for most of the day and had a chance to win the first NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race of the season. However, Hamlin’s block to prevent Brad Keselowski from passing didn’t pay off as the two made contact and spun out during the final lap.

Hamlin, who won last year’s Daytona 500, was in control of winning Sunday’s The Clash after it was pushed back due to soggy weather on Saturday. However, Keselowski and Joey Logano were on his tail as they headed into the turn. The No. 2 car attempted to pass on the inside as Hamlin went in for the block. Yet, Keselowski turned Hamlin’s car as Logano passed by the incident without any harm.

Logano went on to win his first Clash while Keselowski and Hamlin somehow kept control of their vehicles as a major accident was avoided. This types of incidents are not surprising at Daytona International Speedway. There’s a lot of jockeying for position as cars stay close to and over 200 mph on the straights and in the high 190 mph range around the curves. NASCAR is all about taking risks and trying to make the opportune passes. However, it didn’t work out for either driver.

Keselowski almost accomplished his goal but Hamlin’s block attempt threw both cars off. Hamlin was driving slower than Keselowski in the final moments before the crash. His block wasn’t the best idea and it showed as Keselowski clipped his car unintentionally. As a result, Hamlin fell to 13th place after starting in second. Meanwhile, Keselowski finished sixth after beginning on the pole.
