A look at the Midwest Region for the 2017 NCAA Tournament as it is revealed to the college basketball world on Selection Sunday
March is upon us and it is finally time to find out which 68 teams will be headed to the NCAA Tournament. As everyone knows, the field of 68 is broken up into four regions — East, West, South and Midwest — and the winners of those regions will meet in the Final Four in Phoenix. This season, the Midwest Regional will take place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. The Sprint Center is also home to the Big 12 conference tournament and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Before the official reveal on Selection Sunday, you can get a potential preview of the Midwest Region by checking out the latest projections of ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

Last season, the Midwest Region took place in Chicago, IL and produced some of the wildest results of the entire NCAA Tournament. Five of the eight opening round matchups were won by lower seeds. It was also the region that hosted Middle Tennessee’s shocking upset of No. 2 seed Michigan State and Little Rock’s upset of No. 5 seed Purdue.

The biggest shocker in the region last season? Syracuse’s run to the Final Four. The Orange became the first No. 10 seed to make the tournament’s final weekend after reeling off wins over Dayton, Middle Tennessee, Gonzaga and Virginia. During the run, Malachi Richardson became a national sensation, earning himself a first round selection in the NBA Draft.
