After months of surly, back-and-forth pops on Twitter, it appears that NBA player and champion of the people Josh Huestis has finally squashed his beef with NBA writer Fred Katz. In honor of this beef squash, here’s a GIF about squashing beef.
First person to tell me that it’s closer to beef smashing than beef squashing gets blocked because that’s what you’re supposed to do, I think. I mean, I’ll immediately rescind the block because I’ll feel bad, but for a brief moment there will be Tweet heat.
I’ve written about this beef before. This is the beef sequel. I would have called it a “beefquel” but that makes it sound like beef you eat to fall asleep. That’s most beef, come to think of it. Regardless, this has not been something to sleep on.

I contacted the reporter in question, Frederick Katz, about this incident since I last wrote about it. He agreed to speak with me as long as I included some of his “zingers” back at Josh. I’m doing my best:
I went to the Blue game tonight and @jhuestis went 7-8 from 3, hit a late, go-ahead 3 and had game-saving block. Pretty sure I inspired him.

Your zingage may vary, but on a scale of “shtonk” to “zing,” I’d say these were closer to a “fwomm.”
Josh thinks otherwise:
I play in spite of you

In fact, he has not slowed down with the pokes and prods since I last wrote about this:

it's not like your tweets have any journalistic integrity anyways

For the sake of journalistic balance, here’s a video Katz shared of a Spencer Dinwiddie highlight:

If you’re feeling lonely, scroll down from the video to see a lovely picture of happy pre-beef Katz. It might cheer you up. Those were simpler times.
Fun, right? Yes. Yes, I am right. Things seemed to be heating up, so when Zing-flinger Fred told me he was to have Huestis on his podcast, I readied myself with Bagel Bites as one does when they need to find courage.
Well, the podcast dropped today, and can be found here:

This was good, and I probably laughed out loud at their exchanges more than I have at any other audio I’ve listened to alone in my car. “I’ve never been called Superman before” and “Anything to get away from you” are two high points. There’s also anecdotes about accents and loaves of bread worth listening for. Josh also likes steak, which is beef. I don’t like the joy emoticon, but if it ever would apply, it would apply here.

I don’t want to spoil things, but I also do. As it turns out, this was beef in the same way that the black bean burger you order from a vegan restaurant is beef. These guys are buddies, and now we can safely sleep knowing that everything in Oklahoma is hunky-dory. There’s no animosity from anyone on the Thunder toward anyone. Life is good.
