Senators owner wants Sidney Crosby suspended for rest of season
Sidney Crosby ought to be suspended for the rest of the season, according to Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is no stranger to hate. If one’s success is judged by the number of haters you have, no one in the NHL comes close to No. 87. Crosby’s been getting it since his junior days. Most of it revolves around fans being jealous the best player in the world isn’t on their team. But some of it is warranted. Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk might be one of the biggest Crosby haters around, but he has a good reason to loathe the superstar.
On Thursday night, the game after he hit Ryan O’Reilly in the nuts, number 87 struck again. Crosby slashed Senators defenseman Marc Methot’s finger. He had to leave the ice, as his finger was bleeding profusely. This goes without saying, but the video below is quite graphic.
Methot will be out for weeks with a shattered finger. He’s lucky it’s still fully attached. Melnyk went off on Crosby during a radio interview.
"“He takes my guy, I take your guy. That’s my attitude,” Melnyk said, via TSN. “The guy that creates the injury should be sitting out, they should be watching games together for the rest of the season… You simply say, ‘You know what, you’re done for 10 games and guess what, you guys are not going to get even close to the Stanley Cup if it’s an elite player on the other side'”"

His anger is quite justified. The Senators are losing one of their top defenseman because of a careless slash by Crosby. But a season long suspension is ridiculous. Teams would take advantage of this. Crosby’s one of the best players in the world, but he should feel shame for what he did to Methot. Meanwhile, Melnyk should feel shame for sounding like a crybaby.
