Russell Westbrook recorded yet another triple-double on the season Wednesday, this time making a little history in the process
To say it’s been a joy to watch Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook notch triple-double after triple-double this season would be an understatement. The All-Star has captured the hearts of basketball fans all over the league as he makes history — well, at least all of those outside of the Bay Area.
Wednesday night as the Thunder took on the Orlando Magic, Russ was at it again, as he recorded his astonishing 38th triple-double on the season. But this one was a little different, as he made a little bit of history in doing so.
In leading the Thunder to the come-from-behind 114-106 win in overtime, Westbrook dropped a jaw-dropping 57 points, which are the most that any player in the history of the NBA has ever recorded while ending the game with a triple-double. Of course, of those 57 points, none may have been bigger than the insane shot that he hit as regulation was coming to a close to tie the game.
Just when you think Westbrook had this journey exciting enough by recording triple-doubles like he’s catching them out of a pez dispenser, he goes out and puts on a performance like he did on Wednesday night in the win.
The performance was so great, in fact, that Westbrook had the Orlando fans in attendance showering him with “MVP” chants, which he had definitely earned on this night.
As this incredible NBA season comes to a close down the stretch here, the MVP argument gets more heated by the now. But there’s no question that Brodie is out here making his case.
Westbrook finished his 38th triple-double with 57 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.
