Following two highly-entertaining games to kick off the season, the two teams will have to wait at least one more day to settle the rubber match.

The Cardinals announced the delay about two hours prior to first pitch, citing the reason as a “threat of extreme weather”. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday afternoon, with first pitch set for 12:45 p.m. CT.

Both teams are likely itching to keep the games going, as they have both played only twice since opening up their respective seasons at Busch Stadium on Sunday night, a game the Cardinals won 4-3 in walk-off fashion.

In what has always been an exciting and heated rivalry, things seemed to have been cranked up an extra notch this year due to a variety of reasons.

Possibly the most formidable of the factors, is the fact that the Cubs are coming off of their first World Series win since 1908. This happened while St. Louis missed the playoffs; something that only has happened four times this century.

To add fuel to the fire, the Cardinals went out and signed Dexter Fowler, a key contributor to the Cubs’ World Series team.

With two tight one-run games to start the season, it absolutely looks like we are in for a quality season series between these two teams. The Cardinals might be the only team able to challenge Chicago in the division, boasting a starting rotation that includes Carlos Martinez, Michael Wacha, Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn.

With Mother Nature intervening, and we will have to wait one more day for more of the shenanigans these two teams have been putting together.
